About England’s Past for Everyone (EPE)
England’s Past for Everyone is a local history project run by the Victoria County History. Volunteers throughout the country are working alongside authors and researchers to produce a whole range of new resources. From a series of books to learning resources for schools, it’s all about bringing local history to life.
The EPE project is supported by a £3.3 million grant from Heritage Lottery Fund, alongside match funding from other partners. Begun in 1899, the Victoria County History, is creating an encyclopaedic record of England’s places and people, from earliest times to the present.
EPE will help more people access their local history by:
- Publishing a series of paperback books
- Working with schools and other partners to provide education resources
- Coordinating and supporting a series of volunteer programmes
- Developing an interactive website to explore the images, documents and audio visual material that we’ve discovered
