About the Bristol EPE project


Identity and the City: A History of Ethnic Minorities in Bristol 1000-2001

Timed to to coincide with the 200th anniversary of the abolition of slavery and entitled ‘Identity and the City: A History of Ethnic Minorities in Bristol 1000-2001‘, the project seeks to identify what makes up ethnic identity and help to answer questions such as: Who am I?  Where am I from?  In the current climate of suspicion of immigrant groups we expect this book to garner much media attention.

The Bristol project team is led by Madge Dresser and Dr Peter Fleming (UWE), both respected authorities on immigration and slavery. Madge has contributed to many successful popular broadcasts on the subject. Read more in the Staff Profiles page.
