Mounts Bay, Cornwall

Theme: Port Community

This teaching material is designed to explore the many ‘comings and goings’ during the life of two ports near Penzance. Many different races, cultures, faiths and languages have passed through and settled in the Mounts Bay area. Through a range of creative activities, pupils can compare these post communities in the past with today. The material can be taught in its entirety, or as separate sessions incorprated in other curriculum areas; it has many opportunities for cross-curricular links with Citizenship, English, Art, Music, ICT, Religious Education and Geography.

This unit of teaching material was written by Claire White and Heather White, Sense of Place.
Sense of Place was founded by Cornwall County Council to deliver the curriculum in Cornish schools with distinctiveness and diversity.
The material was supported by historical research for the England’s Past for Everyone publication Cornwall and the Coast: Mousehole and Newlyn.
