Our mission is to engage local people with local history. We want to ensure that our learning programme is diverse and accessible to all ages and abilities, and hope it will inspire further local history initiatives.
Learning is at the heart of EPE and incorporates schools, volunteers and outreach projects. Through our school and volunteer projects we provide projects and training that encourage children and adults to participate in local history research and creative activity. Our outreach projects are designed to support initiatives that work towards engaging a wider audience.
Each EPE project involves volunteer groups who provide relevant research for the publications, school projects and the EPE Explore site. Each EPE county will also be working with a school to show how local history can be used creatively across the curriculum. Outreach projects take place across England, including non-EPE counties.
The Learning Programme aims to achieve the following:
- Provide support to local history activity and enable access to history for a wider audience
- Create sustainable learning resources
- Evaluation of the learning programme
- Raising the profile of England’s Past for Everyone
