Book launch a great success
Our latest paperback, Bolsover: Castle, Town and Colliery, was officially launched last night at an event at the Bolsover Assembly Hall, Hill Top.
Over 90 guests attended, including volunteers from the Bolsover project and other supporters of the Derbyshire Victoria County History Trust. The Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire, John Bather, launched the book and presentations were also made by Robert Gent, Cultural and Community Services, Derbyshire County Council and John Beckett, Director, Victoria County History.
The book’s authors, Philip Riden and Dudley Fowkes, thanked the local volunteers for their continued support and stressed how vital it is to the work of the VCH in Derbyshire.
Team members from the central office were also on hand to talk to guests about the project, including the Explore website which provides free access to additional material on Bolsover (www.ExploreEnglandsPast.org.uk/Derbyshire).
The event was also attended by Councillor Ken Walker, Chair of Bolsover District Council and Mayor and Chair of Old Bolsover Town Council, Councillor Thomas Rodda.
An excellent evening was had by all. A delicious buffet was provided by local cateres, Whyld About Food, and the publishers sold all the books they had brought along to the launch.
Anyone in the local area on Saturday 1 November should head to the Winding Wheel in Chesterfield where the Derbyshire VCH Trust is holding a local history fair. There will be the opportunity to buy the book and speak to those involved in the Derbyshire project.
