Participant Schools:
Camborne Science and Community College
St Meriadoc Primary School
Key Stages: 2 – 3
Project Period: 2007

This school project aimed to show how Christianity became established in Cornwall, and to learn about Cornish Saints and how the present system of churches, chapels and holy wells evolved. Based on the academic research of Professor Nicholas Orme (for the EPE paperback Cornwall and the Cross: Christianity 500 – 1560) the project’s key stage transitional teaching material also explores the layout of churches, and how the people of Cornwall related to their churches and pilgrimage.

The material was trialled by pupils at Camborne Science and Community College and St Meriadoc Primary School.

School Project: Comings and Goings – Mounts Bay

Education Coordinator: Coral Pepper
Education Partner: Sense of Place
Key Stages: 2 – 3
Project Period: 2008

This school project explored the many ‘comings and goings’ that have taken place during the life of two ports near Penzance. Based on the academic research of Dr Joanna Mattingly (for the EPE paperback Cornwall and the Coast: Mousehole and Newlyn) the project’s key stage transitional teaching material considers the people of many different races, cultures, faiths and languages that have passed through and settled in the Mounts Bay area. With this school material, pupils also consider the state of working ports in Mount’s Bay today and have the opportunity to devise and present their own vision for a port in the future.

Sense of Place delivered the schools project in partnership with EPE and has successfully trialed the resources in 7 schools. Sense of Place was founded by Cornwall County Council to deliver the curriculum in Cornish schools with distinctiveness and diversity.
