Get Involved
An important aspect of England’s Past for Everyone is to involve local communities and other interested parties in the research process.
Cornwall – Penwith
Group One: Volunteers in this group are working at the local records office researching school records and shipping registers. Shipping registers will show links with other parts of Cornwall and the movement of trade. School registers will provide information on health, heritage, family occupations and attitudes towards education.
Group Two: Volunteers in this group are transcribing wills and inputting information into a database for web use.
Training activity: Training is being provided to help develop volunteer skills. This includes:
- Website training
- Data inputting and IT skills training
- ‘Day School’ on Cornish Language
- Using the records office
Cornwall – Religious Sites
Group One: Volunteers from each parish in the county (approximately 205) have been tasked to complete a questionnaire designed by Nicholas Orme. Volunteers are working at their own pace with professional guidance provided as required.
Training activity: Volunteers are learning how to:
- Document evidence found on a site
- Use location and grid references
- Reference stained glass windows and furniture
Additional information: Although there is one
activity taking place on this project it is an intensive study.
It is hoped that when the gazetteer is complete activities can
take place in and around the research that has already happened
such as photographic documentation which could provide
photographic training.
