This school project was based on academic research by Madge Dresser and Dr Peter Fleming (for the EPE publication Bristol: Ethnic Minorities and the City 1001 - 2001).

Year 7 (ages 11 - 12) pupils from Ashton Park School trialled the material in July 2009.  Starting at Bristol Bridge, pupils had the opportunity to explore the city on foot and by ferry.  Their constructive feedback was important for further development of the material for the online teacher pack.

Dean Smart, Education Consultant, said this about the project:

This collection of material provides insight into the richness and range of human experience over time - grounded in one geographical location, but connecting communities and continents, periods and people across  the ages.  It provides some of the fascinating stories which emerge from the study of local history, and which connect us to the past.
